NJ Announces First Instance of Omicron Variant

New Jersey officials have announced the first confirmed case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the state.

According to the official statement, the individual is a woman from Georgia, who was fully vaccinated. She had recently returned from travel to South Africa. After testing positive on November 28, she went into isolation and experienced only moderate symptoms. She is currently recovering.

Officials acknowledged that there is still a good deal they are not sure of regarding omicron, but reaffirmed that vaccination remains an effective preventive measure and helps to limit the virus’ effects, regardless of which variant an individual encounters. They continue to recommend vaccination for all individuals over age 5.
