NJ Department of Health announces vaccine booster eligibility for all adults over 18

The New Jersey Department of Health formally announced today that all adults (18 and older) in New Jersey are now eligible for an additional booster shot of one of the COVID-19 vaccines. Previously, only those with specific conditions or those with specific personal or professional needs were eligible. Those restrictions have been fully removed and individuals should be able to obtain a booster shot at any vaccine location, as long as they are within a safe time frame from their last dose.

According to the NJ DOH, the safe time frames are as follows:

For the Johnson & Johnson vaccine: People who are 18 and older who received a single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine can receive a booster shot of any of the three available vaccines, at least two months after their shot.

For the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines: People who are 18 and older who received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines can receive a booster shot of any of the three available vaccines, at least six months after their second shot.

In addition, those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised are eligible for a “third dose” of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at any vaccine location, at least four weeks after your second shot.
